MKE Startup News: $6 million NSF grant aims to accelerate UWM research commercialization
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has received a $6 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to transform how university research moves from the laboratory into practical applications, including new startup companies.
The four-year initiative, called UWM TRANSLATE, aims to remove institutional barriers that can slow the commercialization of university discoveries, strengthen relationships between researchers and industry, and create new opportunities for entrepreneurs to build businesses around university-developed technologies.
Led by Ilya Avdeev, director of the UWM Lubar Entrepreneurship Center and professor of mechanical engineering, the initiative will build on the university’s existing research commercialization and entrepreneurial programs.
