Wisconsin is running four different experiments aimed at answering the same question: What does it take to build more high-growth companies here?

Seven months after the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation awarded $3.5 million to four initiatives designed to strengthen Wisconsin's startup ecosystem, the people charged with putting those plans into action gathered Wednesday at WEDC's Madison office.

Representatives from the Wisconsin Frontier Technology Consortium, Wisconsin Fusion Energy Coalition, Founder Factory and Cheese Wedge Consortium came together with WEDC leaders for an Ignite Initiative meeting.

When the grants were announced in February, each consortium approached a different piece of Wisconsin's startup pipeline, from commercializing frontier technologies and building a fusion energy industry to creating new pathways for venture creation in southeastern and northeastern Wisconsin. Those initiatives have now moved from proposals to programs, bringing together universities, economic development organizations, accelerators, investors and industry partners from across the state.
