WIN Foundation – Milwaukee

This chapter meets on the second Thursday of each month, with some exceptions, at the Brookfield Suites, 1200 S. Moorland Road, Brookfield, just south of I-94 off exit 301. Registration for the luncheons begins at 11:30 a.m. with lunch at 12:00 and the presentation and Q&A period is done by 1:30 p.m. Registration fees include lunch.

The WIN Foundation chapter in Milwaukee was created in March 2003 after the acquisition of the former Wisconsin Venture Network, which had a 20-year history of entrepreneurial education.

The chapter helps co-produce the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs' Conference, and has been active in organizing forums of importance to the Milwaukee area's tech-based economy.

Joe Kremer discussed trends in the angel investment market – and how those developments affect entrepreneurs.

Rishi Shah and Cd Vann presented “The Battle of the Search Engines: How businesses can survive the crossfire.”

May 14, 2009 - Charles Hoslet, managing director of the UW-Madison Office of Corporate Relations

Charles Hoslet discussed a mix of resources and workshops, on- and off-campus, that are available to help entrepreneurs, inventors and investors make the connections they need to form and grow successful new business enterprises.

April 9, 2009 - Panelists Andy Theimer, Lansare; Andrew DeMarco, Bridge Business Partners, LLC; Janet Phillips, Vector Surgical

Andy Theimer, Andrew DeMarco and Janet Phillips discussed creating a stream of customers using traditional and alternative sales methods.  They also shared personal stories of sales tactics to avoid.  

March 12, 2009 - Panelists Mike Wood, general manager GE Healthcare MR Research Collabortation; Jerry Shattuck, licensing manager  at the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, Dr. Charles Mistretta, professor of biomedical engineering, medical physics and radiology at the UW-Madison
 
Panelists highlighted existing and emerging areas of collaboration and offer suggestions on how other industries could better access university-based research and development.
 
February 12, 2009 - Panelists Carrie Bates, managing partner, Triathlon Medical Ventures, Indianapolis; Caralynn Nowinski, associate, Midwest Venture Partners, Chicago; Bob Okabe, a co-founder and managing director of RPX Group, Chicago; Eric Olson, associate, Draper Fisher Jurvetson Portage Ventures, Chicago
 
Panelists compared and contrasted the early stage investment climate in their local area to Wisconsin.  They also shared insights on why they are interested in investing in Wisconsin companies and what companies around the state can do to attract out-of-state investors. 

January 8, 2009 - Panelists  John Neis, managing director of Venture Investors LLC, Wisconsin’s leading early stage venture capital firm; Teresa Esser, managing director, Silicon Pastures; and Bill McCoshen, former state Department of Commerce secretary
 
Panelists discussed Wisconsin’s successful program to provide tax credits to investors in qualified early stage deals.
